WAMP install / External drive

I am new to Drupal.  I plan on doing a WAMP install.  Someone recommended XAMPP instead.  Any comments?  As of now I plan to do WAMP since there is more info available.
Is there any advantage to installing on an external drive.  It has a lot more room and I guess it won't be messing with my system files or anything else critical on my computer.  Then again there may be other things I am totally unaware of.  Can someone please advise?
Thank you.

XAMPP vs. Wamp

I'm not sure about XAMPP. WAMP has an issue with php because Drupal doesn't support the PHP version that ships with the current version of WAMP. It still works though. See http://learnbythedrop.com/drop/95 for info on the issue.

I don't know about the external drive. It depends on how many and what kind of media files you'll be adding to the site. I've always installed it on the C: drive since Drupal and WAMP don't take up that much space.

Never mind

As a newbie, I was intimidated at first. I didn't know what to expect. Surely was afraid something drastic would happen to my PC. (As careful as I am, that stuff always happens to me.) Maybe I am too cautious.
I watched the video. As I watched and followed step by step installation, things went pretty smooth. My worries were for naught. Wamp and Drupal appear to be using minimal resources. I am experimenting and checking out other videos and learning a lot. Did a lot of reading in drupal.org and other places. They left a lot of gaps.
As complicated as Druplal is, although it seems more straight forward than the other tools I've seen, Rob and his videos and website, learnbythedrop.com are filling in a lot of those gaps.
Thanks, Rob.
