Drupal 7 Alpha Preview

This is a preview of the just released Drupal 7 Alpha version. It shows what the new install screens look like and offers a look at the new user interface for administration. There are a lot of additional features to explore in future videos.

Thank you for the 7-alpha preview

Nice video of the new Drupal 7-alpha, first I have seen of the new features. I have been "playing around" with Drupal 6 for about 2 1/2 months now, created a couple live sites and have 4 new ones on my desktop local server. I see that Drupal 7 has addressed some of my pet-peeves about 6, mainly image and file handling, and updating modules and Drupal itself. I hope the new Drupal makes it easier to theme pages/nodes with the RDF drag and drop - this feature certainly should be built in to make it easier for users to give their sites a custom look. I am downloading the alpa as I write this to give it a try on my desktop. The question is, how easy will it be to update existing sites from Drupal 6 to the new 7 when it becomes production ready?

Drupal 7 Upgrade Path

Your guess is as good as mine. There will likely be some effort involved since some things that were previously contributed are now in core. Then there's the issue of all of your modules being up to date for D7. For that reason I think it will be at least a few months after the official D7 release before large D6 sites could consider making the upgrade.
