Lesson 5 ending abruptly

Rob - I have been going through your excellent lessons. Got stuck on lesson 5 since it abruptly ends when you are talking about adding permissions for blogs. Can you please upload the complete lesson 5.

Ignore my comments - Figured out that the remainder of the video has to be bought through Premium Services.

The premium video also ends here. The rest after creating a second blog post is static green screen!

Green Screen On Video

I've had people report green screens from time to time and it's always something to do with a corruption in the video that occurs during or after the download. I've checked the source video on the server and it works well for me. I suggest downloading it again and having a look.

path

Hey Rob - just finished tutorial 5 and I noticed that the address on my web browser is not "clean" for example my about page shows up at http://massageeducator.com/?q=about. Is there a way for me to get the "?q=" out from between the "/" and the "about"? My brother set up this site on Godaddy to play with it, I think the intention was to move it to another hosting later, so it did not originate on a local host if that matters.. Any help would be appreciated.

Clean URLs

With Drupal 6 clean urls (which removes the ?q= from the path) is usually enabled during the initial setup if the server (or web host) supports it. You should head over to /admin/settings/clean-urls to see if you can enable it. If your host does not seem to support it (in which case the option to enable would likely be greyed out) then you may need to contact their support.

no page or story options

Hi - under content types I only have Blog Entry as an option, there is nothing for Page or Story and I'm not sure where I enable/configure that.

Did you ever have those options? If so then it might be related to another module that you installed or something gone wrong in an upgrade.

No, I've never done an upgrade and the only modules I have are those 5 from the earlier lesson (FCKeditor, poormanscron, etc). The only content type option that appears is Blog Entry. Do you have any idea where I would go to try to enable Page and Story? I don't want to move onto lesson 6 until I figure this out...

Hi Rob,

I love your Vids they are the best. But I also have to say that the vid ends after about 12 min... Since this is such an essential video, would you mind checking it again? There seems to be something wrong...

thanks for the amazing work!

Video Ending Early

Thanks very much for the kind words. The video does indeed end. It's no mistake though. As it says in the accompanying post, "The premium version contains additional content as indicated below." A purchase of the premium version of the video provides access to the rest of the content.

Total run time

Does it say somewhere what the total runtime of the videos are? Would be helpful when deciding whether or not to purchase the premium version.

Video Run Time

I don't have the run time of the video listed in the node. It's a suggestion I haven't heard before but I think it's a good one so I'll add it to my to do list.

RE: Video Run Time

Yes, this would be a nice thing to know up front.

Thank you for all you do!

Best, Tom Isabelle

Dude, these videos are a lifesaver. Was using Joomla! and kept running into walls.
Thanks for not being a greedy bastard and offering your help for free.

Thanks, glad I could help. I think it's important that people who seek to benefit from Drupal also give back to the community, whether it's through knowledge or financial support, because there's a lot of effort that goes into it (like Drupal.org hosting for example) that is easy to forget about.

Re: Creating Content On Your Site

Argh, give me a break... That is so evil to end the video there!

A bigger warning of this video not beeing complete would be nice, i feel like iv just wasted 12 minutes.

So the futere videos are the same, cutting the deal were the grains are?

Ohh, well - im out.

Re: Creating Content On Your Site

Sorry to hear that. In the post there is a notice that says, "This version is a preview that focuses on the settings that need to be reviewed and possibly adjusted prior to publishing content. The premium version contains additional content as indicated below." And there is an indication in the beginning of the video that the video is a "PREVIEW." My intention is not to fool anyone which is why I've added these indicators.

Hi

Having trouble with lesson 5. It repeats lesson four. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Fixed now. Sorry for the delay.

Re: Creating Content On Your Site

This is lesson 5, but the embedded video lesson is a repeat of lesson 4. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?

Re: Creating Content On Your Site

The incorrect embed was the result of a mistake on my part when changing to a new embed code. The problem is now fixed.
